History

PAUL MCGRADY, SR. (1925-1967)

"Paul was a pacesetter. His amazing evangelical spirit set him apart. He was known for his
incredible spiritual strength. It came from his time spent humbly with God. He never paraded
himself in a prideful way. He was comfortable in being God's chosen man to win souls to the
Kingdom. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ and he followed Him. Rev. Paul McGrady fulfilled
the Great Commission as much as anyone I have known!"

******************************************************************************************************************************

Paul McGrady Sr. was one of eight children born to hard working farmers, Milford Garfield & Lula Faye McGrady in rural Pennsylvania in 1925. At age 19 he enrolled at Trevecca Nazarene College without a high school degree to fulfill a call to ministry. Paul graduated with a degree from the Vanderbilt School of Divinity & later attended the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He pastored churches for twenty years in Tennessee & Missouri, but his final years were spent in Bethany, Oklahoma serving as a professor of religion at Bethany Nazarene College. He was a sought after speaker & traveled extensively throughout the United States. Paul Sr. is survived by his widow Jean Goins McGrady, who celebrated her 93rd birthday this year. He is also survived by his son, Paul Jr. & his daughter, Miriam McGrady Bassinger.

Paul McGrady Sr. spent his entire life dedicating himself to meeting the needs of people while striving to model & proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to further God’s Kingdom on earth. The Paul J. McGrady Sr. Foundation aims to follow in the footsteps of its namesake by continuing his legacy of generosity & compassion. One of the ways we've chosen to do so is by supplementing the scholarship endowment of the Paul McGrady Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southern Nazarene University, a scholarship designed by Jean McGrady herself. It is her wish that young men & women who have chosen to pursue a pastorial degree, similar to the courses taught & studied by her late husband, be supported in their endeavors.
